This was a short week for me at work since Monday was the 4th of July holiday. I only went into work Tuesday. Wednesday I went to another dressage show at Blue Goose Stable and July 7th was our 10 year Wedding Anniversary - wow, time flies! We went to Alexandria, VA - near Washington DC for a couple of days. Thursday we drove down to the capital stopping off at DuClaw Brewery for lunch and some beer tasting, then the Arlington National Cemetary on our way to the hotel. We watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and walked around some of the famous graves there. I couldn't get over how huge the cemetary was. It was quite throught provoking seeing all the rows of white crosses. The hotel brought champagne to our room and we enjoyed the bottle before heading out for dinner. Saturday morning we went to Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. We really enjoyed the audio tour and learning about the founding father and first president of America. Saturday afternoon was a marathon beer tasting session. We had lunch and samplers at Dogfish Head Brewery, then moved on to Mad Fox Brewing, followed by Port City Brewing and then dinner and more tasting at Rustica. Here Justin tried two very high percenatge alcohol beers and that rather pushed him over the edge - he was officially "tipsy". Back at the hotel he crashed out asleep but awoke an hour or so later talking complete jibberish - it was hilarious! Sunday we felt a little worse for wear but we hit Sweetwater Tavern for beer tasting and lunch and Gorden Biersch brewery on the way home. All in all we tried 39 different beers at the various microbrewies we visited over the weekend! We didn't even hit them all, the area around DC and Northern VA has a lot of microbreweries we have yet to visit...next time.
