Sept 17/18 - Bald Eagle

Sassy's training continues, this weekend we had our saddles fitted. My friend who does equine massage offered to come out and give her a massage every two weeks, this will help her with muscle release after all her hard work, but it will also help track if she is getting sore and potentially prevent injury. Last winter she started to get stiff in her hind legs, and after X-rays we found thinning cartilage in her hocks, so she had steroids injected into her hock joints. So last week we injected her hocks again and gave her a full exam as a preventive measure. The vet will check her again in a month, before we go into the competition. At the competition she will have to pass a daily vet check, so we are practicing "the jog", where you trot the horse up for the vets. Saturday my friend Chantal went cross country schooling at Fair Hill and at the same time I rode on the trails and did my interval training. We met afterwards and walked together on the trails to cool out. We got really lucky and came cross this bald eagle eating a dead deer. He let us get quite close and we just watched for a while in awe of his size and strength. I love riding in Fair Hill!!
