April 16/17 - When it rains it pours!

This weekend was our first event of the season. Dressage and SJ on Saturday and XC jumping on Sunday. There was a big rain storm on the forecast, but Saturday morning was clear, so off we went. As I'm driving up there the black clouds start rolling in, but somehow I managed to ride my dressage test before the heavens opened. It started off with just light showers, so my friend Chantal and I went off to walk the cross country course as we had almost 3hrs before SJ. Before we got to fence #3 it was pouring and we were soaked to the bone. But there was no running back to the trailers, we were far away. So we just finished walking the course, totally soaked! Back at the trailers we got changed and started to get ready for SJ in our small trailers, tacking up and inserting studs into the horse shoes. But I was not thrilled about the prospect of jumping in the rain. Once ready I back Sassy off the trailer and was just about to get on when the announcer said the show was canceled for the day. Too late, in those few minutes I was drenched again!! Sassy was back on the trailer and I managed to get untacked and studs out in the cramped quarters. In the meantime the rain kept coming and as people went to start leaving the field was getting torn up and all the trailers are getting stuck. In the end everyone had to get towed out by tractors, I waited almost 2hrs to leave the field! They said they would announce 7am Sunday if the competition would continue where it left off the next day, but no...the field was still too wet to get in trailers. Oh well.. better to be safe, the footing would have been too wet & slippy anyway. Instead, Sunday I had one of the most productive days working around the farm ever (including starting to paint the center aisle of the barn) - so I made the most of it. .

My project at work the last 6 months has been development of our new website and I've been putting in a lot of overtime too, nights and weekends. FINALLY after a lot of stress and hard work the website launched on April 13th - check it out at www.selectbreeders.com. We also have a Facebook page www.facebook.com/selectbreeders.

We have been doing well with our new years resolution to cook more from recipes. Here is Justin's meatloaf and popovers, with roast potatoes. Strider likes to watch from his chair.
