Malfoy had been missing for a few days, this is not unusual since he can eat food at the barn and will often hang out there with Kit-Kat. It has been so warm, he's not as motivated to come in at night either. Monday evening he showed up and could barely walk, he was covered in cuts and there was lots of swelling along his back and belly. Tuesday I took him to the vet and they shaved the hair off his back. As the hair started falling away it became clear he'd been attacked by something (a fox or eagle?), there was a bite or claw mark across his back with several puncture holes. I started getting queasy, I thought I was going to pass out. The vet decided to rush him into surgery as he needed a lot of skin removed. I came back at the end of the day and the surgery had gone well, they had to put in a drain either side of his back to help clear the fluid. So I had a busy week trying to keep the wound clean and give him pills. He needed 5 pills a day (painkillers and antibiotics) all spaced out, so I was coming home at lunch all week. Wednesday he was still very sick, but he started improving on Thursday. On the weekend Justin finished the tin ceiling, except for the cornice which will go on after we put up the wall paper. It looks AWESOME! I took Quest for a trail ride in Fairhill and Sassy went for her first jump lesson after her injury. We didn't do any jumping, but trotted and cantered over poles to help build her strength. It has still been unseasonably warm, so both ponies got baths and clipped this weekend.
