March 18/19 - Washington DC

My friend Nicola from the riding club in Sheffield and her husband Dom came to stay for the weekend in between a visit to NY with their parents and a quick trip to Florida to do some sky diving. They arrived on the train Thursday evening and we went to the Iron Hill Brewery in Newark, DE. We had a great dinner and tasted a lot of beer. On Saturday we drove to the metro station and took the light rail into Washington DC. The metro station was full of protesters, all carrying signs against the new health care bill from Barack Obama. It took us almost half a hour to get tickets. The state capitol was surrounded by protesters, but we were still able to get inside and we saw the house of representatives. The president was in the opposite side of the building and we just missed the motorcade driving in when we arrived. It was a beautiful day and we made the most of the sunshine walking around the mall and viewing the various memorials and monuments and The White House. We had lunch at the Capitol City Brewery, so more beer tasting. We were just a week too early for the cherry blossom, but we got to see the beginning of it.
